The police are holding in custody a man, 30, believed to be behind the false alarm of terrorist attack at Accra Mall. Messages on social media on Sunday, September 24 broke out about a terrorist attack at Accra Mall. This created fear and panic and nearly destabilized business activities at the Mall, the police said. But the suspect behind the hoax has been arrested in Offinso in the Ashanti Region. The recent nominee of Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Kennedy Nyarko Osei, has been approved by Parliament after facing the Appointments Committee last Thursday. The Akyim Swedru Member of Parliament was nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to replace William Agyapong Quaitoo, who resigned the post in August. Pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante group Invisible Forces snatched ballot boxes and caused confusion which resulted in arrests during the record fourth elections to have Sarah Dugbakie Pobee confirmed as District Chief Executive for the Ada East District Assembly. South African prosecutors are appealing for a longer sentence for Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius for murdering girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. They told the Supreme Court of Appeal the six-year sentence was “shockingly light” and he should get 15 years. Defence lawyers say the sentence handed down by a lower court is appropriate. Pistorius claimed he shot dead Ms Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013 after mistaking her for a burglar at his home in the capital Pretoria. A controversial bill amending Kenya’s election law has come into effect, which makes it more difficult for the Supreme Court to annul elections. Uhuru Kenyatta won last week’s re-run of the election, after the Supreme Court declared August’s poll invalid. President Kenyatta said on Monday that he did not agree with the new election law, however he did not send it back to parliament. Opposition leader Raila Odinga pulled out of the re-run, calling it a “sham”.
