The late Nakpa-Na Salifu Dawuni has been peacefully laid to rest in a private ceremony held in Bimbila in the Northern Region. The late chief, who had contested the Bimbila paramountcy with Na Andani Dasana Abdulai in 2003, had been kept in the Yendi Municipal Hospital morgue for the past four years. He was scheduled to be buried on Thursday as per agreements reached between the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the Nakpa family. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) on Wednesday destroyed three 20-footer containers of Asahi Mackerel seized last week. Five hundred cartons of So Nice Mackerel were also destroyed in an operation at the Mile 7 Police Station. But FDA fears some of the products may have found their way to Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi. Therefore, the FDA regional offices “have embarked on an intensive PMS exercise to ensure the products are not offered on sale to the general public”. The president of Panama has declared Wednesday to be a national holiday after the country qualified for the World Cup for the first time ever. The steady drop of inflation continues as a marginal figure of 0.1 per cent was recorded between August and September. September’s inflation rate was 12.2 per cent, according to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). Addressing journalists in Accra on Wednesday, Deputy Government Statistician Anthony Amuzu said Non-Food inflation also dropped to 14.1 per cent in September from 14.7 per cent recorded the previous month. The nation’s disaster management organization has confirmed that Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School was affected by last weekend’s explosion at Atomic Junction in Accra.
