An eight-year old boy in Ohio safely drove his little sister to McDonald’s after learning to drive from YouTube, local news report. Ohio’s Morning Journal said police received calls from residents about a child driving through town. Staff at the restaurant thought they were the victims of a prank when the underage pair stopped at the drive-through window, the paper added. The boy obeyed all traffic lights and laws, witnesses said. “He didn’t hit a single thing on the way there. It was unreal,” police officer Jacob Koehler, from the village of East Palestine, said. The child told police he…
Northern Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Daniel Bugri Naabu has made defiant calls at the recent suggestion by the Inspector General of Police to have settlers of Agbogbloshie relocated. David Asante-Appeatu on Wednesday after visiting and inspecting the area following deadly clashes involving Dagombas and Kokombas suggested that the settlers should be relocated. This suggestion was greeted with stern resistance from the feuding groups. READ: Kokombas on collision course with IGP over relocation from Agbogbloshie On Thursday, April 13 when he visited the area, the NPP regional chairman rubbished the IGP’s suggestion. “But where will we relocate…
It all started with providing private security for opposition politicians, then it assumed a moral cassock of beating political opponents in the name of ‘protecting the ballot’ and when the NPP lost elections in 2008 and 2012, the scope of ‘vigilantism’ was extended to beating of journalists who went to cover post-election mood of party faithfuls both at the party’s headquarters and the Nima residence of its opposition leader, Nana Akufo Addo. The actions of these groups are violent and criminal. These are unregistered private security groups who are gradually ripping our already fragile democracy apart. The first time I…
A youth activist in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Israel Venunye, said comments of ex-President John Mahama accepting responsibility for the party’s poor showing in the 2016 elections “was not satisfying and does not show any sense of remorse”. Former President Mahama in accepting full responsibility for the embarrassing defeat said: “Of course as the general who led us into battle, I take ultimate responsibility for our losing the election and so if it will satisfy those people, blame me for the loss”. However, reacting to aspects of the comments, Mr Vununye said there is lack of candour in the…
The Narcotics Control Board (Nacob) has arrested three persons on different occasions at the Kotoka International Airport for illegal possession and trafficking of drugs. The three are Ghanaian Madugu Suraku, Liberian Maxwell Momo Golafale and Nigerian Daniel Njoku Egbuta. A release from the Board on Thursday, April 13 said the Ghanaian was arrested on March 29 on his return from Kenya. He “was picked up while going through arrival formalities and a urine test conducted on him proved positive for narcotics”. He is said to have confessed ingesting 35 pellets of a powdery substance suspected to be Speedball. “On the…
Leaders at the Kokomba yam market inside Agbogbloshie, a suburb of Accra, have expressed disagreement with comments by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to have their residents relocated. David Asante-Appeatu – after a tour of the area on Wednesday following deadly ethnic clashes a day earlier – proposed the relocation of all settlers. According to the IGP, the continuous dwelling of the various ethnic groups in the area poses a national security threat. But on Thursday, April 13, addressing journalists, Ezekiel Dannah, Secretary of the Kokomba Yam Dwellers Association, described the stance of the IGP as premature. A joint…
Sylvester Stallone is suing film studio Warner Bros over profits he says he is owed from the 1993 film Demolition Man. Stallone says Demolition Man made at least $125m at the box office, and under his deal with the studio, he is entitled to at least 15% of that. His lawsuit says “motion picture studios are notoriously greedy” and Warner Bros “sat on the money owed” for years “without any justification”. Warner Bros has not commented on the legal action. Stallone’s legal papers say his representatives raised the issue of owed money with Warner Bros in 2014 but were told…
On 100 days of Akufo-Addo gov’t, CDD ‘badly’ disappointed in 110 ministers, dismissals & vigilantism
The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has assessed the presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his first 100 days, though it admits “100 days into a new administration may be too short a time to fully assess a government”. Monday, April 17 will mark exactly 100 days since Mr Akufo-Addo was inaugurated as President of the Republic of Ghana, taking over from the John Dramani Mahama-led administration. “We commend the teams of both the John Dramani Mahama-National Democratic Congress (NDC) and that of the Akufo-Addo-NPP government for working out a relatively smooth and peaceful transfer of power. “They…
National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Adams says the action of political vigilante group Delta Force is criminal and worse than what some three activists of his party did in 2016. The three activists – later to be referred to as Montie 3 – threatened, on radio, to kill judges of Ghana’s Supreme Court during a case on the use of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards for the elections. Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Pampaso show host Salifu Maase, also known as Mugabe, threatened to kill the judges just as happened in 1982. Though the…
