The estranged wife of incoming Lesotho Prime Minister Thomas Thabane has been shot dead two days before his inauguration. Lipolelo Thabane, 58, was travelling home with a friend when both women were shot by an unknown assailant, the police say. The police add the motive is unknown and an investigation is continuing. The couple had been living separately since 2012 and filed for divorce which hasn’t been granted yet. Two Nigerian nationals are in the grips of the Cantonment Divisional Police Command for daylight robbery. The two suspected robbers reportedly deflated the tyres of their victim at the Flagstaff House traffic light and snatched GH¢6,000 he had withdrawn from a bank at Osu. A leading rights group has condemned the imprisonment of a man in Tunisia for smoking a cigarette in public during the dawn-to-dusk Muslim fast. A court in north-western Bizerte town sentenced the man to one month in jail for “public indecency”. The ruling was an “absurd violation” of personal freedoms, Amnesty International said.
