Pupils of Goo-Atanda Primary and Kindergarten School in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region learn under very harsh conditions like learning under trees and dilapidated structures, a situation that poses danger to their lives. The School was originally established for orphans but currently has other children due to lack of primary school in the community. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has descended heavily on the recent announcement by government on the formation of a joint task force to retrieve all state assets in the custody of individuals, especially former government appointees. The statement from the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, said the task force will be composed of officers from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Revenue Authority (Customs Division), the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), the Driver and Vehicles Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Office of the President. Parliament’s Appointments Committee has recommended for approval six ministers-designate vetted within the past couple of days. In all 12 ministerial nominees of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo were vetted from Monday, January 30 to Thursday, February 2. On Friday, the Committee presented its third report to the Seventh Parliament. Five were approved by consensus by the Committee while one had to be approved by a majority decision. The Northern Region office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has been attacked by men suspected to be supporters of the ruling party. TV3’s regional correspondent Zubaida Ismail said the attackers numbered about 20. They stormed the offices, she reports, and demanded that workers vacated.
