Barely 48 hours after TV3’s report on the invasion of cocoa farms by armyworms within the Ejisu-Juaben and Mampong municipalities of the Ashanti Region, the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has intervened. The Cocoa Health Extension Division of COCOBOD has presented several boxes of insecticide to affected cocoa farmers to control the spread of the pests. Farmers in 25 cocoa-growing communities within the Ejisu-Juaben and Mampong municipalities have been thrown in frustration as they are on the verge of losing their investments to the invasion by the worms. The world’s first vaccine against malaria will be introduced in three countries – Ghana, Kenya and Malawi – starting in 2018. The RTS,S vaccine trains the immune system to attack the malaria parasite, which is spread by mosquito bites. Students of Bolgatanga Polytechnic on Monday staged a demonstration against executive of the Students Representative Council (SRC) over what they say is the mismanagement of funds. A 12-year-old boy who was apparently trying to drive across Australia has been stopped by police 1,300km (800 miles) into his journey. The boy was pulled over in Broken Hill in the New South Wales outback on Saturday after a patrol noticed the car’s bumper dragging on the ground. Police said the boy had been attempting to drive 4,000km from Kendall in NSW to Perth, Western Australia. He was arrested and taken to Broken Hill police station. Man Kaur, a 101-year-old athlete from India, won the 100 metres sprint at the World Masters Games in Auckland on Monday, celebrating with a little dance. Ms Kaur completed the race in one minute 14 seconds and was the only athlete to compete in her age category. She has been dubbed the “miracle from Chandigarh” in New Zealand’s media.
