A Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, says it is unfortunate for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to do politics on Easter Monday. According to Mr Anyidoho, by his action, Dr Bawumia has disturbed Christians in solemnly observing the day after Jesus Christ’s resurrection as such. The Vice President had earlier in the day addressed a town hall meeting to mark 100 days of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government, which he is a chief part of. The meeting was put together by Accra-based Joy FM. Speaking on TV3’s News 360 in an effort to have…
Chelsea captain John Terry has decided to finally bring his over 20 years stay at the West London club to an end. An agreement was reached between the defender and the club on Monday, April 17 for the record captain to leave at the end of the season. “We had some really positive talks but with everything taken into careful consideration I have decided it’s the right time for me to leave,” John Terry, who has won almost everything with the club is quoted on Chelseafc.com as saying. “I’ve always been conscious that I depart at the right time, in…
The message landed on a social media platform I am on less than an hour before the Resurrection. My gut feeling was, this amounts to taking away the producers’ power over their own show. It demanded an unqualified apology from the Multimedia Group Limited for failing to admit a member of the ruling party, the New Patriotic Party, who showed up to represent the expected guest on Multimedia’s weekly news analysis programme, Newsfile. My understanding is that the Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Dame, was the expected guest. It is important to understand what production of a show like Newsfile entails.…
After the Match Day 12 fixtures of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday, April 16, Asante Kotoko’s winless run continued following a 1-0 loss at Wa All Stars. Abeiku Ainooson missed a penalty which would have drawn the former champions level. But the defending champions held on to claim all three points. It was the first match for the Porcupine Warriors after the dismissal of coach Zdravko Logarusic. In Accra, Winful Cobbina clinched a point for former champions Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium. After a goalless first half, Joseph Mensah put debutants Elmina Sharks ahead in the…

Telecommunications network MTN has explained the reason why it sent bulk sms to its Mobile Money customers over interest payments. According to a release on Saturday, April 15, MTN said it had received complaints from some of its customers –particularly Muslims – of receiving interests against their religious beliefs. But since it could not distinguish the Muslims from Non-Muslims, MTN sent the bulk message asking subscribers of its Mobile Money service who do not wish to receive interests to dial *595* and follow some basic steps to opt out. MTN explained that the payment of interests is in line with…

She was officially the last person born in the 1800s still living. She had attributed her longevity to her genetics and a diet of three eggs a day, two of them raw. Ms Morano was the oldest of eight siblings, all of whom she has outlived. She died at her home in the northern city of Verbania. Her life not only spanned three centuries but also survived an abusive marriage, the…
The Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Most Reverend Jean-Marie Speich, has called on priests in the Keta-Akatsi Diocese to clear their minds and thoughts from all that is ungodly and move forward with their newly appointed bishop, Most Rev. Gabriel Kumordji SVD. He urged them to strive to become excellent priests of the Diocese and with Bishop Kumordji SVD, build a ministry of unity, a ministry of reconciliation, and a ministry of holiness and testify the love of God for humanity. “Many Christians or Catholics, many Laity or Priests are following ‘idols’. It maybe money, sex, clerical power, voodoo or elevating…
North Korea has attempted to launch a missile on its east coast which is believed to have failed, South Korea’s military says. It comes a day after the state warned the US that it was “ready to hit back with nuclear attacks” amid mounting tension in the region. On Saturday, a military parade was held in Pyongyang as a show of force. North Korea has already conducted five nuclear tests and a series of missile launches. “North Korea attempted to test an unidentified type of missile from [its eastern port of] Sinpo,” the ministry said, adding that the suspected launch…
