The Wa Circuit Court has sentenced a 25-year-old vulcanizer to 20 years imprisonment for robbery and causing unlawful harm. The convict, Salifu Issaka, was arrested on July 28, 2019 after he tried escaping when owner of a house he intended robbing chased him. A statement signed by the Upper West Police Public Affairs Officer noted upon being caught by owner of the house, Issaka physically attacked him inflicting machete wounds and cutting his thumbs. The Ghana Chamber of Mines has launched a two-million dollar Tertiary Education Fund to support the development of high caliber of mining professionals and global leaders in the sustainable exploitation and management of natural resources. The Fund, which will be administered in phases, would see producing member companies of the Chamber contributing 400,000 US dollars annually for five years to support tertiary education giving priority to the University of Mines and Technology (UmaT). A total of 28 people have so far lost their lives in the torrential rains in the Upper East region. As of Wednesday morning, the death toll stood at 27, but the Upper East NADMO regional coordinator Jerry Asamani confirmed on 3FM Sunrise morning show on Thursday that one body was later discovered in the Bongo District.
