Government has scrapped the system of bonding trainee nurses and midwives in the country on the back of its inability to employ the thousands of graduates currently pushing jobs in the public health sector. “Bonding is stopped now,” Deputy Health minister Tina Mensah announced Thursday, but did not give details on when the decision was taken by government. Uganda’s ethics and integrity minister has announced plans to re-introduce the controversial anti-gay law which was nullified by the Constitutional Court in 2014. The Greater Accra Regional Coordinator of the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo), Mohammed Baba is blaming trainees for the delay in the payment of their stipends. The Fisheries Commission has fined Gyinam Fisheries Limited, owners of the Lu Rong Yuan industrial trawler, one million dollars for engaging in Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing in the Western Region. An additional fine of GHC 124,000 was imposed on the company for being cost of fish found on board the vessel. The fine is in accordance with of Fisheries (Amendment) Act, 2014 (Act 880).
