The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the brutal murder of an Indian national, Devendra Singh, whose body was discovered over the weekend.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has since deployed a high-level special team, including intelligence officers and homicide investigators, to bolster the local investigation and track down any remaining accomplices.
Discovery of the Body
The victim had been reported missing prior to the discovery.
According to a police press release signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, the breakthrough in the case occurred in the afternoon of Saturday, April 25.
At approximately 2:00 p.m., authorities received a tip-off that Mr. Singh’s vehicle had been spotted on the outskirts of Sabin Akrofuom, near the Royal Lemosey Hospital.
”A team of officers proceeded to the scene and found the vehicle parked by the roadside,” the statement noted.
“Upon inspection, the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered in the boot of the vehicle with multiple stab wounds.”
Following the discovery, the Ashanti Regional Crime Scene Management Team processed the site for forensic evidence.
The victim’s body was subsequently moved to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue for preservation and an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The suspect is currently in custody assisting with the investigation.
The victim’s vehicle has been impounded for further forensic analysis.
The IGP’s special team is working to ensure all individuals linked to the crime are apprehended.
The Ghana Police Service has expressed its condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public that no stone will be left unturned in seeking justice. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information regarding the case to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation.
