An angry youth of the New Patriotic Party in the Bawku West District of the Upper East region have vandalised the party’s office in protest of the appointment of Victoria Ayamba as the district chief executive for the area. The youth destroyed things such as chairs, tables and posters of the president and the Member of Parliament of the area. A 31-year-old farmer Abdul Salam has been arrested by the police in Asankragua for murdering his 6-year-old son for rituals. The suspect allegedly cut off the son’s head and severed the legs at Adidaase near Amanso Amenfi in the Western region. The boy has reportedly been missing since Monday, only for the Unit Committee to discover his remains in a nearby bush. Ghana Gas Company has installed a second overhead compressor to serve as a backup anytime the Atuabo processing plant is shut down for mandatory maintenance work. The Ghana Gas company has been experiencing intermittent shut down in operations due to mandated maintenance after every 4,000 hours of operation. In early January of 2016, the Ghana National Gas Company started the construction of a second standard overhead compressor unit. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has lashed out at the Central Bank, over what it describes as lack of due diligence in the projections of the bank on figures provided for foreign exchange cash flows in 2015. The 2015 report from the Auditor General’s Department showed that though the central bank projected 50 million dollars as cash flows from exported bauxite, the country only made 9 million creating a variance of 41 million dollars. Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has refuted claims that government is rushing to end the IMF bailout programme due to borrowing restrictions. Government signed on the three-year extended credit facility in 2015, to among others ensure fiscal discipline and cut down on government’s borrowing spree. Government earlier this year announced that it will not extend the IMF programme when it ends in April 2018.
