Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has refuted claims that government is rushing to end the IMF bailout programme due to borrowing restrictions. Government signed on the three-year extended credit facility in 2015, to among others ensure fiscal discipline and cut down on government’s borrowing spree. Government earlier this year announced that it will not extend the IMF programme when it ends in April 2018. Fire on Tuesday morning gutted two apartments within the Workers’ Estate in Ho, destroying properties worth hundreds of cedis. No casualty was recorded in the fire at the block “D”. Ghana joined the rest of the world to mark malaria day which falls on April 25, having chalked significant successes over the last few years. Malaria prevalence reduced from 50% in 2002 to 20.4 percent last year in 2016. This means Ghana is no more hyper-endemic for malaria. Health experts are attributing the success rate to the use of insecticide treated nets and in-door residual spraying. Currently severe malaria admissions have reduced. Some aggrieved artisanal miners in the Ashanti region are to petition the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II over government’s fight to halt illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, across the country.
