Voters are going to the polls in France to choose their next president, amid high security following a deadly attack on Paris police three days ago. About 50,000 police and 7,000 soldiers are being deployed across the country to secure polling. Eleven candidates are vying to be the country’s next president, with leading candidates spanning the political spectrum from far-left to far-right. Armyworms have invaded several cocoa farms in the Ejisu-Juaben municipality in the Ashanti region. The affected farmers say the application of pesticides to control the disease have not worked as it continues to spread to other farms. The farms are in Mamponteng, Kona, Atia, Boamang, Amampama and other cocoa growing communities and it is likely to affect the 1 million metric tonnes target of cocoa production in the country if immediate measures are not put in place to address it. Management of Groupe Nduom, a multinational family holding business that owns Regency Grove Hotel, said the fire that engulfed several properties on same compound with the hotel  was suspected to have been ignited by an air conditioner. The air conditioner was located in the studios of the Amansan Television (ATV) on Saturday evening. A fifteen year old girl was shot dead on Saturday by unknown gunmen following recent attacks on residents of Nkonya Ahenkro by suspects from Alavanyo. She was shot in the neck during an exchange of gunfire between some unknown gunmen and the police service. This brings the death toll to 3 with two others still in critical condition at hospital. The GN Bank owned by businessman cum politician Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom was caught up in fire Saturday evening as helpless fire personnel struggled to douse the fire. TV3’s Selorm Amenyah who was at the scene gathered that the fire started from the Business Television Africa (BTA) before spreading to the bank and part of the Three Star Coconut Grove Regency Hotel which shared the same compound with the television station. Economic analyst, Joe Jackson says he disagrees with the government’s defence regarding the recent 2.25 billion dollar bond. Minority Members of Parliament have called for a parliamentary inquiry into how some persons they refer to as very close friends of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, purchased 95 percent of the bond. There have been incessant gunshots crying through the two rival communities of Alavanyo and Nkonya in the Volta region since Friday evening. Residents in these two communities had to stay awake throughout the night yesterday to ward off glaring attacks and to protect lives and properties.
