Rice farmers in the Volta Region who complained of losses in the past are now heaving a sigh of relief as their situation has been turned around with recent bumper harvest. The farmers are attributing the success story to financial, technical and continuous capacity building courses from some agricultural oriented nongovernmental organisations in the region. A man has been shot dead after trying to seize a soldier’s weapon at Paris’s Orly airport, French officials say. The man, named as Ziyed B, was killed by security forces after attacking a patrol in the airport’s south terminal. Earlier on Saturday he had been involved in a shooting north of Paris and a carjacking in the south. Prosecutors have opened an anti-terror investigation. Any man who impregnates a teenage girl in any basic school at Gnani, a community in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region, will be fined GHC250 while male teachers will pay GHC300. The increasing spate of young people committing suicide has compelled the Ashanti Regional Mental Health Directorate to intensify public education to support individuals opting for suicide as to end their challenges in life. Available statistics show 68 persons, comprising 28 males and 40 females, attempted suicide in Ashanti region in 2016. Residents of four communities in the Wassa Amenfi East District of the Western Region are demanding immediate action from government to halt the takeover of their lands by some foreign nationals for mining activities.
