The Member of Parliament for Nsawam Aduagyire, Annor Dompreh has urged the presidency to wean itself off the Scholarship Secretariat and allow an independently constituted body to run the agency. This, he said, will ensure that political influences are reduced to the barest minimum. The Tamale Teaching Hospital has for three consecutive years, recorded an upsurge in maternal mortality; something authorities have blamed on overcrowded wards and late transfer of critical cases to the facility among others. Since its upgrade to a teaching hospital almost a decade ago, authorities have been putting measures in place to stem maternal mortality but a total of 27 cases were recorded in 2014, 39 in 2015 and 66 in 2016, figures from the facility showed. Small scale mining companies would not be able to renew their licence until the menace of illegal mining (galamsey) is addressed, Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Peter Amewu has declared. He has also issued a moratorium on the application and issuance of new licence to persons seeking to go into small scale mining.
