China’s tourism industry saw revenues of 423.3 billion yuan ($61.55 billion) during the recent Lunar New Year festival, up 15.9 percent against last year, the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) said late on Thursday. The First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Friday launched the Floating Production and-Storage Offloading (FPSO) vessel, John Agyekum Kufuor, at the Keppel shipyard in Singapore. The vessel named after Former President John Agyekum Kufuor will operate in the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) oilfields in the Western Region. It is the largest of the three FPSOs in Ghana and the first equipped to convert both gas and oil on the same platform. The Minister nominee for Transport, Kwaku Ofori-Asiamah is likely to start work on Monday February 6, 2017, when transport fares are expected to be increased. Information available to Onua News from the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) indicates that transport fares will at all cost go up on Monday. The Ghana Statistical Service has secured some funding to embark on a nationwide agricultural census to collect data on farmers, farm size and crops cultivated for decision making. The project should have started in 2014 but was delayed due to lack of funds. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture estimates that, it will need a total of 22 million cedis for successful implementation of the census. However, only five million cedis has been released by the Ministry of Finance to start the procurement process of the project. The Ghana Rubber Estate Limited (GREL) is to begin the construction of a second factory this year in the Western Region; a project that is set to generate over 2,000 jobs in the first phase.
