A total of 41 mechanised boreholes are being constructed in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region under the government’s ‘one constituency, one million dollar’ initiative to facilitate development.

Member of Parliament for Zebilla, Frank Fuseini Adongo, at a sod cutting ceremony said government has released 500,000 cedis to the constituency under the initiative introduced by the Akufo-Addo government.

The decision to use part of the funds to construct the boreholes, he explained, followed a broader consultation with the District Assembly and necessitated by the scarcity of water in the district, which has been a challenge over the years.

He said the construction of the boreholes will alleviate the water challenges in the area.

District Chief Executive for the area, Victoria Ayamba, said she has received many applications from Terago community and other communities in the district for boreholes to be constructed there.

She thus thanked the MP and the government for making sure the communities that have no water will now have potable water to drink and for their daily activities.

Afuugu Simon of Afuubicom Company Limited, the contractor working on the project, assured the residents of completing the project on time to enable them have access to potable water within two weeks.

A resident of Terago, Apambilla Emmanuel Ayeebo, who spoke on behalf of the people of the area thanked the government, the MP and the District Assembly for listening to their pleas, and pledged their support to ensure that the government succeeds in all their endeavours.
