Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ended his Western Regional campaign tour on Wednesday with a major boost, following the declaration of support for him by 14 out of 17 electoral area coordinators of the Shama Constituency.
All 14 electoral area coordinators campaigned for Kennedy Agyapong in the 2023 New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries, leading to Ken winning the Shama Constituency, but they say they have now “learnt their lessons” after the 2024 elections.
Speaking to fellow NPP delegates of the Shama Constituency during Dr. Bawumia’s campaign tour, the 14 coordinators noted that after they were deceived to campaign against Dr. Bawumia in 2023, those who deceived them betrayed the collective interest of the NPP and campaigned for the NDC, against the NPP.
“Our father is Nana Kwamena. He is the Chief Coordinator for the Bawumia Campaign here. In 2023, we did not understand him and together with all my colleagues here, we did not support Dr. Bawumia and he lost here in Shama,” said one of the coordinators.
“But in the 2024 elections, we learnt our lessons. We realised that those who deceived us and got us to campaign against Doctor, later turned around and were rather campaigning for the NDC.
“So for us electoral coordinators, we have learnt our lessons and together with our colleagues the delegates, we won’t make the mistake we made. This time, we want to be part of his victory and we are resolved to voting for him.”
The coordinators, who are very influential in grassroot mobilisation of delegates, assured Dr. Bawumia that they will work hard for him to ensure a resounding victory for him in January’s presidential primaries.
“We are going to work very hard for Dr. Bawumia and we are united in this. We will ensure that we give him a resounding victory here in Shama.”
