Blues Skies Ghana calls for gov’t support

Global fresh chopped fruit and juice company, Blue Skies, intends to expand its Ghanaian market hold but says will need the support of the Government of Ghana to grow.

Blue Skies Ghana Limited has since its existence in the country served only 5% of its products on the Ghanaian market, while a whopping 95% is exported, but the company has hinted it will soon grow its Ghanaian market share.

Counted among the highest private sector employer in Ghana with about 6,800 staff, the company supplies both the local and foreign market with the best of freshly chopped fruits and juice well-packaged for consumer satisfaction.

Having operated in Ghana for a while now, much to the satisfaction of its customers, the company is faced with the challenge of sourcing raw materials as it is only able to get 5% of its raw materials, mostly fruits, in Ghana.

The rest of the raw materials including mangoes and pineapples, the company says, are imported.

During a courtesy call on the company by management of Media General, the founder of Blue Skies, Anthony Pile disclosed they could do more with the support of the government.

The visit by the managers of  TV3, 3news.com, 3FM, Onua FM, Onua TV, Connect FM, Akoma FM and APL, led by the group Chief Executive Officer, Beatrice Agyemang was to strengthen business ties.

Mrs Agyemang expressed the readiness of her outfit to collaborate on projects that will be beneficial to the collective good.

“We’re ready to partner you, you should be on TV soon. Ghana’s Most Beautiful is starting, we are launching it on the 11th of next month. I think you should come on board”, she said.

Mr.  Anthony Pile also noted the visit by the Media General Group was timely as the company turns its focus on the local market.

He said while his company is ready and mindful of the need to partner and embark on socially impactful programmes, they could be motivated to do more if the government took keen interest in their business.

“My message is, allow us to prosper, allow us to get on, encourage us. Boris Johnson was here, he spent a few hours with us, and we had Tony Blair here… where are the Ghanaian ministers?”, he quizzed, recounting the number of invitation letters sent to them.

“We want them to see what we are doing for Ghana”, he added.

According to Mr. Pile, if the government had paid more attention, particularly to mango farmers, whose harvest he said have dwindled due to the invasion of Black Bacteria Syndrome disease, it would go a long way to shore up Mango supply to the company.

Meanwhile, the company says its employees are well remunerated and have helped enhance the economic state of Nsawam, where most of the staff live and work.

It also boasts as one of the few companies in the country that recycles all of its by-products including using waste materials to manufacture compost manure and the wastewater reused through a Dutch water treatment technology.

Meanwhile, the two companies – Media General and Blue Skies Ghana Limited – are expected to work together in the coming days.
