The president is said to be impressed with the measures put in place at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in anticipation of a possible outbreak of the deadly coronavirus disease.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday toured some facilities at the Airport as the threat of the disease escalates.
He was taken round KIA by the Managing Director of Ghana Airport Company Limited, Yaw Kwakwa.
Mr Kwakwa briefed journalists after the president left for the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge, to inspect other facilities.
“From what [President Akufo-Addo] said when he was getting into his car, he was quite satisfied that we had put in place measures along international guidelines to make sure that the country is well protected against the coronavirus,” he said.
He assured journalists, and by extension Ghanaians, that “we are well prepared to deal with the coronavirus issue”.
The disease has hit two sub-Saharan African countries – Nigeria and Senegal – making the threat of reaching Ghana more real.
So far, over 3,000 deaths have been recorded since the outbreak of the disease in Hubei Province in China.
Over 80,000 cases of the viral disease have been recorded.
Ghana is yet to record a case as all suspected carriers of the virus tested negative at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.
