The Spokesperson of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been granted bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Dennis Miracles Aboagye’s bail is to the tune of GH¢50 million with three sureties, two to be justified.
The Spokesperson of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was arrested on Saturday night at the Accra International Airport upon his return to Ghana.
He was arrested by EOCO with the help of officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
His lawful custody resulted in the massing up of supporters of his party at the head office of EOCO in Accra, leading to a blockade by the Ghana Police Service.
The supporters, some of whom were key leaders of the party, demanded that Dennis Miracles Aboagye is allowed access to his lawyers.
After barely four hours of interrogation when a team of lawyers led by Samuel Atta Akyea got access to him, he was granted the bail.
“How is he going to be released? How can it [bail condition] be met? This critical hour?” a frustrated Atta Akyea wondered.
“Where are you going to find properties worth GH¢50 million and finding it tonight?”
It is unclear if the bail conditions will be met for the release of the former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).
