The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed that its officers attempted to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, in connection with an ongoing investigation.
According to EOCO, the MP had previously been invited on two occasions in February 2026 to assist with the investigation, but did not honour the invitations.
The Office said it subsequently took steps to secure his attendance in accordance with the law, leading to the attempted arrest.
In a statement, EOCO said the arrest could not be completed after the situation escalated and officers determined that proceeding with the operation could endanger public safety.
“EOCO wishes to clarify that its officers, acting in the lawful discharge of their statutory responsibilities, attempted to effect the arrest of Hon. Baffour today, 23 September 2026, in connection with an ongoing investigation,” the Office stated.
EOCO said the investigation remains active and that it would review video footage and other circumstances surrounding the incident before determining its next steps.
“The Office further wishes to assure the public that the investigation remains active,” it said, adding that it remained committed to discharging its statutory responsibilities while respecting the Constitution, the rule of law and parliamentary privileges.
