The Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) and the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) have disclosed that the Ghana Gas Processing Plant has suffered a significant technical fault, resulting in an emergency shutdown of the facility and a temporary curtailment of gas supply to thermal power plants.
In a joint press release dated Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the two state-owned energy entities explained that the fault stemmed from the complete failure of the Burner Management System (BMS) controller for the Heat Medium System (HMS).
Preliminary assessments, according to the statement, indicate that the affected system has been severely damaged and will require a full replacement.
The emergency shutdown of the plant has consequently led to power supply disruptions in some parts of the country, as thermal power plants that depend on gas supply from the facility have been affected.
A comprehensive technical and safety risk assessment is currently underway to determine the most effective and secure pathway for restoring operations in the shortest possible time.
The statement further noted that a dedicated team of engineers is working round the clock to replace the damaged system and expedite the restoration process.
Ghana Gas has assured the public that, subject to the outcome of the ongoing assessments, processes to restore operations will commence within the course of Wednesday.
The Corporate Affairs Directorates of both GNGC and GRIDCo have urged the public to bear with them during this period of disruption, while expressing regret over the inconvenience caused.
“We will continue to provide timely updates as the situation evolves,” the statement concluded.
