The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations doubleheader qualifiers between Ghana and Sierra Leone have been cancelled.
The decision was taken by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) after the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) failed to meet a FIFA deadline to reinstate old executives.
The Association was banned by the world sport-governing body over government interference after the old executives were removed en masse.
The government and the football officials were, however, given up to Tuesday, October 9 to reinstate the Isha Johansen-led administration.
But the feuding parties failed to meet the deadline, thereby upholding FIFA’s decision to ban the West African nation.
Sierra Leone’s national teams have, as a result, been banned from international competitions with the immediate effect on the October 11 Cameroon 2019 qualifier – scheduled for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium – and the October 15 game scheduled for the Freetown National Stadium.
Ghana themselves are without an FA with football administration being superintended by a FIFA-CAF appointed Normalisation Committee.
The Black Stars are, however, top of Group F with 3 points out of two games.
Kenya and Ethiopia are the other nations in the group.
