Ghana’s finest are making significant strides in the battle against illegal mining, with a whopping 208 suspects behind bars and a staggering 99 excavators confiscated in the ongoing anti-galamsey operations.
Led by the vigilant Ghana Police Service, the crackdown has seen a wave of arrests and seizures in key hotspots around the nation.

In recent operations at Samreboi, Wassa Dunkwa, Tigarikrom, and neighboring areas in the Western Region, a total of 58 suspects – 50 locals and 8 Chinese nationals – have been apprehended for their involvement in unlawful mining activities. To add to that, a haul of 85 excavators and 3 bulldozers have been wrested from the hands of the culprits.
This tireless effort isn’t confined to the Western Region alone. Regional Police Commands are ramping up their game as well:
– The Western Region’s bravest have netted 19 suspects and retrieved 3 excavators and 3 pump-action guns, among other finds.
– Up in the Upper West, 7 Ghanaian suspects have been collared, alongside the seizure of 11 changfangs, 3 motorbikes, and more.
– Down in the Eastern South Region, 24 suspects – including a Burkinabe – have been ensnared, with 5 excavators, 3 single-barrel guns, and a pump-action gun taken into custody.
– The Western Central have made a monumental 85 arrests, rounded up 76 locals and 9 Chinese nationals, and secured 11 excavators and more.
– Meanwhile, the Eastern North’s forces have detained 15 suspects (even a solitary Chinese) and reclaimed 4 excavator controls, 9 monitors, and a pistol, along with other revealing evidence.
In a grand total, the tally stands at 208 suspects under lock and key, while the Police have impounded 99 excavators, 3 bulldozers, 4 pump-action guns, 3 single-barrel guns, 1 pistol, 11 changfangs, and a treasure trove of other incriminating items – from vehicles to gold detectors.
Rest assured, the long arm of the law is unfurling its fingers, and justice will be served in due course.

The Ghana Police Service remains steadfast in its resolve to safeguard the nation’s invaluable natural resources – and this is just the beginning.
