It has emerged that the man who was killed at the West Hills Mall near Weija following a scuffle between him and security details at the mall was on a last-hour shopping spree prior to a trip to Germany.
Shadrack Aloo, the deceased, had gone there in the company of his friend identified as Ibrahim Sakyi when the incident happened.
He was 32 years old.
He left behind a four-year-old son.
“Before his untimely and gruesome death on the 30th of January, 2023, Shadrack was booked to travel to Germany within that week,” the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Afo Toffey disclosed.
The MP was addressing the media after leading the chiefs and residents of Mpataba in the Western Region, where Shadrach hails from, to stage a peaceful demonstration to demand justice for him on Saturday, February 4.
The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, called for calm in her speech, noting that she has started pushing for justice for the late Shadrack Aloo.
Recounting what led to the gentleman’s death, the MP noted that the deceased resisted a search on him by a police officer who was using force to do so.
“This subsequently led to a raising of alarm from the police officer, inviting other security guards at the mall to bring Shadrach to the grounds handcuffed and continue to use taser on him”.
He became weak and unconscious. He was therefore rushed to a health facility at the mall but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The management of West Hills Mall has since issued a statement detailing eyewitnesses’ accounts and what was captured by its CCTV.
It also conveyed its “sincerest condolences” to the deceased’s family.

Meanwhile, Madam Dorcas Afo Toffey said she has called on a human rights lawyer who is also a Member of Parliament, Francis Sosu, to take up the case.
The Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General and the Parliamentary select Committee on Defense and Interior would all be petitioned on the matter.
“Justice for Shadrack is what we are all seeking for,” Madam Affo-Toffey maintained.
She called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to issue a statement to condemn the action of the police and commiserate with the family of the deceased as he did when George FLyod was murdered in USA, noting that Shadrack died in a similar fashion.
She also wants the IGP to thoroughly investigate the case to bring the culprit to book as well as adequate compensation paid to the family.
Meanwhile, the shop manager who used taser on the deceased currently facing trial at District Court in Accra.
