Mortuary workers lament over lack of PPEs

Workers at the morgue in the various health facilities across the country are lamenting about the lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) amidst the outbreak of COVID-19.

They claimed health authorities have refused to provide mortuary workers the requisite PPEs to protect themselves and enhance their work regardless of rapid spread of the novel corona virus in the country.

General Secretary of Mortuary Workers Association, Richard Jordan in an interview with Onua FM “Yensempa” morning show host Nana Yaw Opare (a.K.a Wofa) blamed managers of the health facilities for putting their lives in danger.

Richard Jordan wants government to hold managers of health facilities responsible as he accuses them of hoarding PPEs provided by Ministry of Health.

“We are compelled to share same PPEs with colleagues and that is the way we are protecting ourselves under COVID-19.

“It’s pathetic and it seems we don’t understand the gravity of the disease, why do you provide one Wellington boot for two workers under COVID-19?” he asked.

Richard Jordan noted the mortuary as a revenue center where enough revenue is generated for internal use and wondered why government should be the one providing PPEs for health workers.

The situation, according to him, cuts across both private and government hospitals but believes managers of the private health facilities are better off in providing the needs of their workers.

Richard Jordan briefly commented on congestion at various morgues, and appealed to the general public to come for bodies of their late relatives to ease pressure on the morgues.
