Three days after the reopening of nominations by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashaiman Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, no one has picked forms to challenge the incumbent Member of Parliament, Ernest Norgbey. The party’s decision to reopen the nominations was due to the sudden demise of the only contender to the MP, Emmanuel Max-Voy. By the close of nominations on Monday, August 19, 2019, no one showed up to pick nomination forms. The only contender to the MP, Emmanuel Max-Voy, died mysteriously days after declaring his intention and picking nomination forms for the seat.

Ashaiman NDC Constituency Chairman Tony Afenyo in an interview with Bright Asempa on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa explained that “as at 5pm [on Monday], which is the close of the three day re-opening of the nomination, no one picked the forms”. “In Ashaiman, we don’t want any trouble in the party so at 5pm, I checked on my election officer and no one had come so I asked him to stay till 7pm and he stayed till 7[pm],  but no one came,” the chairman explained. Mr. Afenyo added: “I have the forms with me and I will present to the regional office today”. When asked if he thought the death of Mr. Max-Voy played a role in discouraging people from picking the nomination forms, Mr. Afenyo said “it’s an act of God, no human has done anything but the party opened the nomination just for the system to be flexible and we believe everything is in the hands of God”. “Nominations were opened for everybody because the party’s national executives just wanted to strengthen the democracy, that’s why they opened the nomination.” By Kweku Antwi-Otoo|3news.com|Ghana]]>
