The Association of Para Track and Field and Power Lifting in the Ashanti region has honoured Media General for excellence in news reportage and extensive coverage of the plight of its members during the 3-week partial lockdown period to contain the spread of COVID-19.
The group particularly commended broadcast journalist, Ibrahim Abubakar, for a story that brought relief to the para athletics who were struggling to feed themselves during the lockdown period.
The athletes presented a citation to the journalist to acknowledge his dedicated service in championing the cause of persons living with disability.
“A story covered by Ibrahim Abubakar and broadcasted on TV3 during the lockdown period in this season of COVID-19 paved the way for various companies, churches, institutions and individuals to donate to the association. We say Ayekoo to him and TV3,” the citation reads.
The group also presented another citation to express its appreciation to the Obaatanpa Program on Akoma 87.9FM for its loyal and dedicated service to persons with disability to share their life experience.
The radio station has dedicated airspace to champion issues affecting physically challenged persons and prioritizing concerns of the disability community.
Presenting the citation, Public Relations Officer of the Association, Patrick Kissi Essuman said “We feel that TV3 and its sister stations – Akoma Fm, Onua TV/Fm, 3Fm, Connect Fm and 3news.com – are not just the First in News and Best in Entertainment, but also an organization that seeks to propagate and ensure the wellbeing of all persons regardless of their social status”.
Media General’s Northern Sector Bureau Chief, Kofi Adu Domfeh, expressed gratitude for the recognition by the para athletics.
“For us our job is to reach out to the community and make an impact through our reportage. And we do this for the development of all. But for it to have had this recognition, we are thankful to God for giving us the strength to serve to our ability. We pledge to do more to serve our community and the less privileged,” said Mr. Domfeh.
