Police in the Tema Region have foiled an attempted robbery at Community 24 in Ashaiman, resulting in the deaths of three suspected robbers following a gun battle with officers, authorities said.
The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, 21 December 2025, when the Ashaiman Divisional Police Intelligence Team received information about an ongoing robbery at a private residence in the Adjei-Kojo District. A police patrol team was immediately dispatched to the location to intervene.
According to the Tema Regional Police Command, officers encountered six young men at the scene, all wearing face masks and hoodies and allegedly armed with machetes, firearms and other offensive weapons. Upon sighting the police, the suspects reportedly opened fire, prompting officers to return fire in self-defence.
During the exchange, three of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead shortly afterwards. The remaining three suspects, believed to have also suffered gunshot injuries, managed to escape and are currently on the run, police said.
Items retrieved from the scene included three face masks, three machetes and an unregistered Royal 125 motorbike, which police believe was used by the suspects. The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the Police Hospital for preservation, identification and autopsy.
In a related development, hospitals and health facilities within Ashaiman and surrounding communities have been placed on alert and instructed to notify the police immediately if any persons, particularly males, present with gunshot wounds.
The Tema Regional Police Command commended the officers involved in the operation for their swift response and professionalism, describing the intervention as a critical step in preventing violent crime and protecting lives and property.
Police have appealed to the public to assist ongoing investigations by providing credible information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects. Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activity through the police emergency lines.
