The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with a shooting incident involving former Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo.
The incident occurred at Kwabenya on Sunday
A statement signed by the Accra Region Head of Public Affairs, Supt. Juliana Obeng, said a search conducted following the arrests led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations indicate that personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty, received a distress call and proceeded to a residence at Kwabenya.
Upon arrival, it was established that a ceremony was underway at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, alias Akofena, when Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and requested access to the premises.
She was, however, denied entry.
The Police further revealed that armed security personnel at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in injury to the former minister of state.
Her vehicle was reportedly found with multiple gunshot marks.
The six suspects and the exhibits retrieved have since been transferred to Police Headquarters to assist ongoing investigations, while the Service said efforts are underway to locate and arrest all other persons connected with the incident.
