Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has extended best wishes to all students writing the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), urging them to approach the exercise with confidence, honesty, and determination.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 4, by the Office of the Vice President, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed confidence that all candidates would give off their very best, having invested years of effort, discipline, and preparation toward the milestone examination.
“She encourages all candidates to approach the examination with confidence, honesty and determination,” the statement signed by Press Secretary and Spokesperson Ama Pratt read.
The Vice President also commended the Ghana Education Service (GES), teachers, parents, and all stakeholders for their dedicated efforts in preparing students for the national assessment.
She further reminded supervisors, invigilators, and school authorities to uphold the highest standards of fairness and transparency to ensure a credible process and outcome.
The 2026 BECE, conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), involves a total of 620,141 candidates from over 20,000 public and private schools writing the exams at 2,302 centres nationwide.
The candidates include 619,985 from Ghana — comprising 304,273 males and 315,712 females — and an additional 156 students from neighbouring Togo and Benin, whose schools follow Ghana’s curriculum.
Authorities say enhanced monitoring measures have been put in place this year to curb examination malpractice and ensure the integrity of the process, with WAEC reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on cheating and warning that any candidate found flouting the rules will face severe sanctions.
The examination is scheduled to run from May 4 to May 11, 2026.
