The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results of the 2026 West African Senior Schools Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) for school candidates.
The exams started on Tuesday, April 7 with practicals in the Visual Arts and ended in June.
By the results, there was an improvement in Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies from last year.
English Language saw a decline from 69 per cent to 62.4%.
About 315,094 candidates, however, got grades between A1 and C6, representing 62.4%.
A total number of 512,862 candidates made up of 225,270 males and 287,592 females from 1,022 schools entered for the examination.
This figure represents an 11.07% increase over the 2025 entry figure of 461,736.
A total number of 5,049 (0.98%) were absent from the examination.
About 7,434 candidates had their subject results cancelled for bringing foreign material like prepared notes, text books, and printed material into the examination halls, WAEC disclosed.
“The entire results of 861 candidates have been cancelled for possession of mobile phones in the examination halls,” a press release said.
WAEC has also cancelled or withheld the results of 8,295 candidates.
