The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2022 WASSCE, cancelling the entire results of 518 candidates.

A total number of 422,883 candidates made up of 203,753 males and 219,130 females from 977 schools took part in the examination, the Council said in a state issued on Thursday, December 1, 2022.

This figure is 5.25% lower than the 2021 entry figure of 446,352. A total number of 2,818 (0.67%) of the candidates who registered were absent from the examination.

According to the statement, some 3,845 candidates who sat for the examination had some results cancelled for sending foreign material into the examination hall.

Meanwhile, the entire results of 117 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into alleged cases of impersonation detected during the examination, the statement noted.

WRONGFUL MENTION OF ACTION SECONDARY TECHNICAL SCHOOL, MADINA IN THE COUNCIL’S SECOND UPDATE

During the Council’s Second Update to the media on September 16, 2022, Action Secondary Technical School, Madina was wrongly cited as one of the schools caught engaging in Syndicate Cheating. The school that should have been named in the alleged case of Syndicate Cheating was Madina Senior High School, who were writing their examination at Action Secondary Technical School (ASTS). The Council deeply regrets any embarrassment caused to ASTS as a result of the error.

CAUTION

The Council is cautioning all stakeholders, especially candidates, to be on the alert and not fall prey to the activities of scammers who promise to upgrade results for a fee. Candidates are to note that all WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated using the results verification system or by downloading the WAEC QR Code. Institutions are also urged to always verify results presented to them to expose incidents of forgery.

CONCLUSION

The Council wishes to express its most sincere gratitude to all stakeholders especially the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, Heads of School, Examination Officials, the Security Agencies, Corruption Watch, Africa Education Watch and Examiners, for their support and co-operation before, during and after the conduct of the examination.
