A first year female student of the Tarkwa Senior High School in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality of the Western Region, Augustina Ndabu, has reportedly been kidnapped.

According to Tarkwa-based journalist with Dynamite FM Nana Opoku, Headmistress of the School Paulina Manu told her the student sought permission to visit her relatives at Prestea and could have been kidnapped on her way.

She told Nana Opoku that on Wednesday, January 25, Augustina Ndabu came for exeat and has since not returned.

The headmistress explained she got alarmed when a relative of the alleged kidnapped student called her from the Northern Region – where Augustina Ndebu comes from – that the family have received a call from some people claiming to have kidnapped Augustina and are demanding money.

According to her, several calls to the phone of Augustina Ndabu went unanswered.

The news of the kidnapping of Augustina Ndabu is yet to get to the students as they are writing exams, Opoku reported.

When contacted the Tarkwa Divisional Police Officer, ACP Dennis Abade, said the case of Augustina Ndabu is yet to reach his desk.

Rise in kidnappings in Sekondi-Takoradi

The family of 25-year-old Maame Darkoa Anomah have told Connect FM she has indeed been kidnapped.

Brother to the kidnapped girl said the family learned of her kidnapping through a text message purportedly sent by her kidnappers.

“My sister got missing a week ago but we did not report it to the police because we believed she will return,” said Seth Anomah. “But the text message alarmed us. So we are now going to report it to the police”.

The picture of a dead boy who went missing has been found at Monkey Hill close to New Takoradi.

Radio stations in Sekondi-Takoradi reported a boy with similar description in the picture missing days ago between the Paa Grant Roundabout and New Takoradi close to where the body was found.

The wife of a pastor of Lighthouse Chapel at Nkotompo branch is thanking God after being returned by alleged kidnappers last Saturday.

The pastor – whose name has been withheld – told Connect FM, he had been working with the wife in the office at Bankyease, a suburb of Takoradi, when around 7 pm she left to look for food, complaining of hunger.

He went home later only for the wife’s younger sister who lives with them to tell him the wife had not returned.

“I got scared because of the recent kidnappings. I called my wife’s phone severally but there was no response.”

He continued, “Around 11pm same evening, I received a text message announcing the whereabouts of my wife. I quickly went there and lo and behold she was lying on the floor looking traumatized”.

It is unclear whether these cases are related to the kidnapping of the three girls in Sekondi-Takoradi.

Police assurance

Meanwhile, the Western Region Police Command has assured residents they are “using all resources at our disposal to get to the bottom of the recent kidnappings”.

“We have also invited INTERPOL to complement our efforts at finding the three kidnapped girls.”

Police Commander DCOP Vincent Redeemer Dedjoe entreated the general public to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of the kidnappers.

The prime suspect in the crime in Sekondi-Takoradi

A prime suspect behind the kidnappings, Samuel Wills, who has been in police custody since December 16, 2018, is yet to show the police the whereabouts of the three kidnapped girls.

The first case of the crime in Sekondi Takoradi happened in August 2018.
