President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, under the theme: “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”
During his stay, President Mahama is expected to host two high-level side events aimed at supporting Africa’s renewal and advancing global action on historical justice.
On Monday, September 21, 2026, he will host a High-Level Event on the Accra Reset, bringing together world leaders to discuss “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again.”
This will be followed on Wednesday, September 23, by a side event dubbed the ‘Next Steps’, focused on “From Commitments to Action on Reparatory Justice: Advancing International Cooperation for the Return and Restitution of Cultural Properties and Heritage.”
President Mahama is also expected to deliver Ghana’s official statement during the main General Debate of the UN General Assembly on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
Beyond his address and the two side events, the President will hold a series of meetings aimed at strengthening partnerships, encouraging investment, and engaging with the Ghanaian diaspora.
He is also scheduled to meet with world leaders, the UN Secretary-General, and top executives from multinational companies.
As part of efforts to position Ghana as a leading destination for business and investment, President Mahama will ring the NASDAQ Closing Bell and meet with business leaders at a US-Ghana Presidential Roundtable organised by the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce.
He will also speak at the Council on Foreign Relations and attend the Ocean Panel Leaders’ Meeting.
On Friday, September 25, the President will host a Town Hall meeting with the Ghanaian community in New York to share updates on his vision for national development.
President Mahama is being accompanied on the trip by the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, other cabinet ministers, senior officials from the Presidency, and other government officials.
