24-Hour Economy Kickstart On July 1st

President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has set July 1 as the official commencement date for the highly anticipated 24-hour economy flagship program.
Making the groundbreaking announcement during the inauguration of the Ghana Horticulture Expo 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre on June 11, 2025, President Mahama reiterated his commitment to revitalizing the horticultural sector as part of his broader national reset agenda.
Under the theme “Innovate, Transform, Sustain: Driving Growth in Ghana’s Horticultural Sector,” the President underscored the significance of resetting the sector and reintroduced the flagship program ‘Feed Ghana’ from 2025 to 2028, focusing on the Agriculture for Economic Transformation agenda.
President Mahama emphasized that “Feed Ghana” aims to address rural unemployment, food insecurity, and reduce reliance on imports through initiatives like smart agriculture, farmer support centers, mechanization services, and more.
Regarding the 24-hour economy initiative, he expressed enthusiasm, stating, “This policy will provide a framework for continuous production, processing, and logistics in the future,” highlighting the benefits of swift transportation of fresh produce, reduction of post-harvest losses, and enhanced export readiness.
Furthermore, President Mahama revealed plans to designate the Tema and Takoradi ports as 24-hour ports, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure, energy, security, transport, and data platforms to support round-the-clock agro-industrial activities.
In his vision for increased horticultural exports, President Mahama aimed to surpass $10 billion by 2030, emphasizing the shift from aid to trade and fostering economic self-reliance within the African Continental Free Trade Area.
The President concluded by calling on development partners to collaborate in investing in infrastructure, agriculture, and skills development to propel Ghana towards becoming a leader in the integrated and efficient African economic system.
