A youth forum organised by the Ghana United Nations Students and Youth Association (GUNSA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has concluded the 73rd UN Day celebrations.
The forum, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, saw stakeholders discuss issues on the theme: ‘Making the United Nations Relevant to All People: Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Peaceful, Equitable and Sustainable Societies’.
Speaking on behalf of UN Communications Group in Ghana (UNCG), Linda Gyala, who is the National Communications Officer for UNIDO, commended organisers, particularly GUNSA, for the theme.
“We are in an era that is defined by a deepening trend toward the collective rise of emerging markets, steady progress in globalization, information technology application, and an exciting new round of revolution in science and technology,” she stated on Friday, November 16.
“In our pursuit of greater development and prosperity, there are greater opportunities than challenges for the pursuit of lasting global peace and sustainable development for the UN,” she added.
Ms Gyala talked about the significance of the UN in maintaining global peace and development.
She emphasised that the UN’s top priority is the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
“In Ghana, complementary efforts between UN and the Government encouraged a successful launch of United Nations Sustainable Partnerships (UNSDP) in October to promote the SDGs Agenda aligned with the country’s development strategies to eliminate hunger, poverty and leaving no one behind.”
