NABCO recruits at their passing out ceremony

The government has announced it will terminate the employment of employees of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) found to have already been employed in other government programmes.

According to the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, it has come to the notice of the government that about 2,105 NABCO employees have been discovered to have already been employed under the National Service Scheme (NSS), the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), the Forestry Commission and the Ministry of Health Nursing Training institution.

The minister said the NABCO secretariat has informed government such employees will be existed from the programme.

Addressing the media in the Eastern regional capital, Koforidua, as part of the Meet-the-Press series, Mr. Nkrumah, also announced government has resolved challenges it encountered in processing the allowances of some 9,235 employees.

“The secretariat informs us that 9,235 of them have now corrected their data and thus will be paid this week. Their December and regular stipends are also programmed to be paid immediately afterwards”, he said.

The minister also hinted on the possible enrollment of more people on the NABCO as some have voluntarily exited the programme creating vacancies.

“Additionally, since October 2018 a total of 1,098 have also notified the secretariat of an intention to exit to other employment schemes. These voluntary exits are expected to continue as government continues to recruit into the public services. This will create more vacancies on the NABCO roll and will give the secretariat room to onboard persons who are on the waiting list and have not been placed yet”, he said.

Government has thus encouraged interested persons to apply to be on the waiting list of the programme so that as and when vacancies are created as a result of voluntary exits, it will fall on the pool of candidates on the waiting list.
