The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is demanding a live telecast of the scheduled meeting between the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) and the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC).
The meeting is scheduled to be held on Thursday in the presence of the Eminent Advisory Committee (EAC) led by retired judge Francis Emile Short.
The meeting was called for by the EAC following a series of demonstration by some political parties.
The parties, forming the Inter-Party Resistance Against New Voter Register (IPRNA), have been vociferous in their calls for the utter rejection of a new register for the 2020 elections.
They claim it will be a waste of resources for the EC to procure a new Biometric Voter Management System (BVMS) besides the fact that the timing is inconvenient.
The Francis Emile Short-led committee met the EC, advising the election-management body to dialogue with the parties before going ahead with its decision.
Thursday, January 30 is when that meeting will be held.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Thursday, NDC Member of Parliament for Tamale North Constituency Alhassan Suhuyini said the meeting should be telecast live.
He claims just like in 2013 when the election trial at the Supreme Court was telecast live, the NDC wants the EC to get the meeting brought live to Ghanaians to witness what will go on.
This comes almost a day after the NDC National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, called for same, saying the issue is in the interest of all Ghanaians.
