The Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) has defended the ECG-PDS concession agreement, stating all the necessary documents on the deal were thoroughly scrutinised and due diligence done to safeguard the interest of Ghana.
“Contrary to widely circulated publications, discussions, and allegations, MiDA has never acted against the supreme interest of Ghana,” it said in a statement Thursday to set the record straight on the suspended agreement.
The suspension of the deal by the government over “fundamental and material breaches” in the deal triggered calls for heads to roll at MiDA, which supervised the deal that saw ECG hand over its asserts to the Power Distribution Service Ghana Limited in March this year.
Government explained some documents used by PDS in brokering the deal were fraudulent, hence directed the ECG to take over its asserts and continue with power distribution in the country.
MiDA in responding to the issues absolved its staff of any wrongdoing in the deal, indicating that decisions on the transaction taken and coordinated by MiDA were “duly screened by all relevant stakeholders and received due authorization and approval”.
According to MiDA, its team on the transaction were “meticulous and thorough” and upheld “the highest level of professionalism and personal integrity throughout this process”.
It said every decision on the transaction was made within this governance structure.
“As an institution, MiDA works within stringent governance structures that meet international standards,” the statement said.
MiDA has thus asked the media and social commentators on the matter to “check facts” before commenting on the issue which is currently under investigation by the government.
