The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) is calling for the immediate interdiction of the leadership of the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) for its involvement in the concession agreement which saw the management of power distribution handed over to the Power Distribution Services(PDS).
MiDA awarded the concession to PDS after inaugurating a Stakeholder Committee as part of the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact, and this Committee was responsible for ensuring due diligence was done in awarding the concession.
But ACEP made the call for interdiction of Midas executives at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday following the suspension of the agreement between the government of Ghana and the PDS.
The agreement is said to have been secured by a fraudster on behalf of the PDS.
In a statement released Tuesday night, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated that the agreement had some fundamental and material breaches.
According to ACEP, the interdiction of the MiDA leadership will prevent any attempt to tamper with documents that may be key to ongoing investigations on the matter.
“While ACEP commends government for quickly mobilising the state apparatus to protect public interest, the following far-reaching actions are required: Immediate interdiction of the leadership of MiDA to prevent tampering with evidence that may be necessary to support the case of the State.”
ACEP also urged government to stop consuming any advice from International Finance Corporation (IFC) as a financial consultant because the corporation has proven incapable of defending the interest of its clients; MiDA and Government of Ghana.
The Centre further tasked government to immediately audit the background of the beneficial owners of the local partners to PDS.
Meanwhile, government has frozen the accounts of PDS.
