The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ebenezer Kojo Kum, has resigned from government.
The Minister resigned with immediate effect, Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications Office of the President has announced.
No reasons was assigned to the decision. Mr. Ebenezer Kojo Kum is also the Member of Parliament for Ahanta West.
A statement issued by Mr. Arhin said the minister submitted his letter of resignation to the President on Friday, 3rd February 2023.
“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has accepted the resignation from office, with immediate effect, of Hon. Ebenezer Kojo Kum, Member of Parliament for Ahanta West, as Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.”
According to Mr. Arhin, President Akufo-Addo thanked him for his services to the Government and to the country, and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Meanwhile, the President has asked the Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Mr. Dan Botwe, to act as caretaker Minister at the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, until a substantive replacement is made.
Mr. Ebenezer Kojo Kum becomes the third minister to resign from the Akufo-Addo-led government this year.
Former Trade and Industries Minister Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen was the first to resign in January, followed by Minister Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, who have both declared their intention to contest the presidential candidate slot of the governing New Patriotic Party for the 2024 presidential election.
