The President, John Dramani Mahama, in consultation with the Council of State, has nominated 15 distinguished individuals to serve as Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Consul-General designates.

The official communication, dated June 10, 2025, was issued by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, from Jubilee House, Accra.

Among the nominees is Mr. Benjamin Quashie, who has been appointed as Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa. His selection has been widely welcomed, especially within the Ghanaian diaspora in South Africa, where Mr. Quashie has played a pivotal role in mobilizing and advocating for the interests of Ghanaians abroad as Chairman of the NDC Council of Elders in South Africa.

The appointments reflect Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its diplomatic presence across key regions globally. Other prominent nominees are:

  • Kojo Bonsu – People’s Republic of China
  • Kulsoume Sinare Baffoe – Kingdom of Spain
  • Hammed Rashid Tunde Ali – United Arab Emirates
  • Hon. Capt. George Kofi Nfodjoh – Togolese Republic
  • Grace El Mahmoud Marabe – United Arab Emirates (Dubai)
  • Prof. Ohene Adjei – Federal Republic of Germany
  • Abdul Nasiru-Deen – Republic of Turkey
  • Theresah Adjei-Mensah – Czech Republic
  • Prof. Kwesi Obiri-Danso – India
  • Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, PhD – Canada
  • Dr. Margaret Miewien Chebere – Denmark
  • Labik Joseph Yaani – Equatorial Guinea
  • Nii Amasah Namoale – Federative Republic of Brazil
  • Dr. Felix Kumah Godwin Anebo – Republic of Senegal

The President has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take the necessary steps to facilitate the appointment process for the listed nominees.

“Kindly take the necessary steps to facilitate the appointment process for the nominees listed above,” the letter said.

These nominations come at a crucial time as Ghana strengthens bilateral and multilateral ties around the world, focusing on trade, security, diaspora engagement, and diplomatic cooperation.

The letter was copied to the Vice President and the Chief of Staff.

As the nominees prepare for their respective postings, public interest is particularly high in the appointments to key strategic countries such as South Africa, China, the UAE, and Germany —locations with significant Ghanaian populations or trade relevance.

The new Ambassadors and High Commissioners are expected to assume duty and represent Ghana’s interests abroad in alignment with the government’s foreign policy agenda.
