The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that a testimonial game will be played for former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan.
This is to celebrate his illustrious career, which inspired millions on the African continent, and contribution to Ghana football, in particular.
No date has been set yet for the game but it promises to be a memorable occasion for the all-time leading scorer of the senior national men’s soccer team.
Baby Jet, as he is affectionately called, scored 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars.
He holds the enviable record of being the top African scorer in the FIFA World Cup, scoring Ghana’s opening goal at the global tournament in 2006.
He went on to feature in the 2010 and 2014 editions.
Gyan’s professional career took him from Liberty Professionals in Ghana to Udinese and Modena in Italy, Olympique Rennais in France, and Sunderland in England.
He left Europe to play for Al Ain and Al Ahli in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Shanghai SIPG in China.
He returned to Ghana to play for Legon Cities after a stint with Turkey’s Kayserispor.
