The Special Prosecutor has revealed that he knows the exact date former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta left Ghana.
Kissi Agyebeng told The KSM Show in a yet-to-be-aired interview that Mr Ofori-Atta left early this year between January 1 and January 6 when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was still in power.
“Who was in power during those few days?” he asked.
“And we don’t control the airports. The OSP doesn’t control the exit points but we are taking flak day-in and day-out, why did we allow him to fly out of the country?”
The head of the OSP was speaking in relation to the trial and possible extradition of the former Finance Minister over corruption and corruption-related offences, particularly regarding the Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) Ghana contract with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
In his press conference on Thursday, October 30, Mr Agyebeng had described Mr Ofori-Atta as the “chief patron” of all the deals involving SML.
He had earlier issued an Interpol red alert, declaring Mr Ofori-Atta wanted.
But Mr Agyebeng stressed the former Finance Minister was protected by his cousin, then President Nana Akufo-Addo.
“Let’s face facts, his cousin was President. Before John Dramani Mahama was sworn in, Nana Akufo-Addo was President. That was his cousin.
“At the time he left his cousin was the President.”
The Special Prosecutor expressed worry why Ghanaians descend on him for the continuous stay of Mr Ofori-Atta in the United States of America (USA), pointing out that he does not control the jurisdiction of the current residence of the former Finance Minister.
