An Accra High Court has given the go-ahead to the family of late Highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, to hold his funeral rites as scheduled.
The family had made preparations for the funeral to be held on Saturday, December 13 but was stopped after the Court earlier Friday ruled that the immediate family be involved in the planning process.
The High Court later reviewed its decision, ordering the plaintiff to pay a GH¢2 million compensation to the Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu for the cost incurred in plans for the Saturday ceremony.
The presiding judge gave the plaintiffs up to 2:00pm, failure of which the extended family would be allowed to go ahead with the funeral at the Heroes Park of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Lawyers of the immediate family, who had prayed the court for an injunction on the funeral, described the review as practically impossible.
Not even a proposal to sign an undertaking was agreed to as the defendants wanted a GH¢5 million compensation instead due to the number of dignitaries as well as high cost in logistics deployed for the funeral.
With the said amount not paid, the judge asked the defendants to go ahead with plans to hold the funeral on Saturday, December 13.
