Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested five suspected robbers in two separate intelligence-led operations, including two men linked to the robbery and murder of a 28-year-old woman at Asokore Mampong, regional police officials said Monday.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Arthur Osei Akoto, briefed the media on Dec. 15, 2025, outlining recent security operations aimed at curbing violent crime within the Kumasi metropolis and surrounding areas.

Two suspects, identified as Farouk Iddris, 20, a motorbike mechanic and rider, and Salim Mohammed, 19, a motorbike mechanic and rickshaw rider, were arrested in connection with the death of Silver Ngozi. The victim was attacked during a robbery on Dec. 6, 2025, around 5 p.m. at Asokore Mampong.

Police said the suspects were arrested on Dec. 12 at about 9 p.m. at their hideout in Aboabo, Kumasi, following coordinated operations by personnel from the Regional Police Headquarters and the Anti-Robbery Unit.

Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects robbed the victim, during which she was allegedly stabbed with a knife, resulting in her death. A search of Iddris’ room led to the recovery of a machete, knives and other offensive weapons. During interrogation, both suspects reportedly admitted their involvement. Mohammed, who police said was the pillion rider during the attack, identified a zigzag-edged knife as the weapon used to stab the victim.

The knife, along with an iPhone 11 Pro belonging to the deceased and stolen during the robbery, has been retained for evidential purposes. The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court.

In a related operation, police arrested three additional suspects linked to a series of street robberies across Asokore Mampong, KNUST, Kanyase, Bosore, Duase, Antoa, Mayanka, Ayeduase and nearby communities.

Those suspects were identified as Abdul Fatawu, 22, also known as “UN”; Philip Nyarko, 24, alias “Kawawa”; and Samak Hadi, 21, alias “Toronto.” Searches conducted at their hideouts in Aboabo led to the recovery of 59 iPhones, six Android phones, four tablets and five laptops.

Police said all three suspects have confessed in their caution statements and are assisting with investigations.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command appealed to members of the public who may have been victims of the robberies to report to police to support ongoing investigations, reiterating its commitment to maintaining peace, law and order across the region.
