The National Election Security Taskforce has met with the New Patriotic Party’s Presidential Election Committee as preparations intensify toward the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for Jan. 31, 2026.
The meeting was held to receive formal notification of the upcoming elections and to gather critical information, including the timetable, voting locations and the scope of planned activities. These details, officials said, are essential for comprehensive security planning and coordination.
Speaking at the engagement, Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno said early consultations with political parties are a key component of the taskforce’s strategy to ensure peaceful internal elections. He described such meetings as vital for aligning expectations and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders.
Yohuno assured the committee that the Ghana Police Service, working alongside sister security agencies, would collaborate closely with the Electoral Commission and the NPP to implement appropriate security measures. The goal, he said, is to guarantee a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process across all designated venues.
The IGP further reiterated the taskforce’s commitment to maintaining law, order and public safety before, during and after the elections. He urged all actors involved in the primaries to adhere strictly to the law and to promote calm and tolerance throughout the process.
Officials of the NPP Presidential Election Committee welcomed the engagement and pledged their cooperation with security agencies to ensure a smooth conduct of the primaries. The meeting forms part of broader efforts by the National Election Security Taskforce to proactively engage political stakeholders ahead of key electoral activities.
