The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs in a high-profile operation along the Akosombo–Tema road. The seizure marks a significant success in ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region.
According to police reports, the operation followed intelligence received on January 10, 2026, indicating that narcotics were being transported from the Volta Region to Tema. Officers quickly established surveillance along key routes, focusing on the Agomeda Junction area.
At approximately 12:45 a.m. on January 11, 2026, police intercepted two vehicles—a white Toyota Highlander (GS 2013-13) and a black Mitsubishi Pajero (GC 400-22)—driven by suspects Isaac Odoi, 33, and Kwame Mani, 39. A search of the vehicles uncovered numerous yellow-wrapped parcels believed to contain narcotics.
A total of 872 parcels were recovered from the Mitsubishi Pajero, while 741 parcels were seized from the Toyota Highlander. Both suspects were arrested and the vehicles escorted to the station for further investigation. On January 12, the exhibits and suspects were handed over to the Regional CID in Tema, where photographs and inventories were conducted.
The suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations. Samples of the substances are to be sent to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for analysis, while searches are expected at the suspects’ residences. Police are also preparing to process the suspects for court.
The Tema Regional Command reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities. Authorities continue to urge the public to provide credible information to support law enforcement efforts and help safeguard communities.
