The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Koduah, has defended the party’s decision to initiate disciplinary processes against former Environment Minister Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng following comments describing the party as “fake”.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Koduah said the NPP is governed by clear rules and laws, insisting that any conduct deemed misconduct must be addressed through due process. He described Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s remarks as “careless” and disappointing, given his stature and long association with the party.
Mr Koduah noted that the comments, in which the Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation suggested he was no longer a member of a “fake party”, could have warranted immediate expulsion. He added that Prof Frimpong-Boateng could also have formally resigned if he believed his membership had ended.
However, the General Secretary said the party opted to follow constitutional procedures. He confirmed that the matter has been referred under Article 444 of the NPP constitution, empowering the National Executive Committee to determine possible expulsion.
He stressed that the process has been formally initiated in line with party rules.
